Terrain and elevation

Terrain tiles are compiled by Mapzen and hosted by the AWS Open Data program. Regional credits and licenses follow the terrain dataset attribution documentation.

US government terrain material is not subject to copyright protection within the United States. Source detail, age and vertical reference vary by region. ETOPO1 is unsuitable for navigation.

This planner derives elevation samples using bilinear interpolation of zoom-12 tiles, smooths profiles and calculates grade. Hillshade and slope shading are derived from neighboring heights and ground distance. These changes are made by Straight Line; source organizations do not endorse these calculations. Terrain is an estimate and can omit small features.

Place search and maps

Place search is powered by Geoapify and © OpenStreetMap contributors. OSM data is licensed under the Open Database License.

Street maps: © OpenStreetMap contributors. Topographic maps: OpenTopoMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors and SRTM; map style CC BY-SA. Satellite imagery is powered by Esri through the authenticated ArcGIS Location Platform service: Esri World Imagery. Map controls display “Powered by Esri” and the provider credits returned by the imagery service. When imagery is unavailable, the planner switches to OpenStreetMap.
